Friends familiar with tempering furnaces know that the tempering process directly impacts glass quality. What are the specific steps in the bending process of a tempering furnace, and what issues should be considered? Let's take a brief look.

Relevant parameters include: arc change speed, entry interval, effective length of the wind baffle, quenching reciprocating speed, side roller pressing time, upper roller pressing time, locator engagement time, dominant baffle pre-elevation time, and glass length.

   1. Arc Change Speed

This refers to the speed at which the wind baffle changes from flat to curved after the glass enters it. Setting Principle :

Smaller radius and thinner glass require faster speeds; larger radius and thicker glass require slower speeds. For SM 2 type equipment, generally do not exceed 350; for SM 5 type equipment, generally do not exceed 400.

   2. Entry Interval

This refers to the position of the glass's leading edge when it reaches the wind baffle after exiting the furnace.

   3. Effective Wind Baffle Interval

This refers to the distance between the position of the glass's trailing edge and its leading edge after entering the wind baffle.

   4. Quenching Reciprocating Speed

This refers to the speed at which the glass oscillates within the wind baffle. The setting principle is that thinner glass with a smaller radius requires a faster speed; thicker glass with a larger radius requires a slower speed. However, it should be noted that if the quenching reciprocating speed is too fast, the trailing edge of the glass may exit the wind baffle, requiring adjustment to the effective wind baffle interval.

   5. Side Roller Pressing Time

This is a parameter for SM 2, referring to the engagement time of the pressing rollers at both ends of the wind baffle. After the glass exits the furnace, it first reaches the first pressing roller at the front, and the cylinder presses the roller down. However, the glass also needs to run to the rear end to press the trailing edge to eliminate straight edges. Because the arc length of the produced glass is unequal, it takes some time for the glass to reciprocate from front to rear; this is the side roller pressing time. Only after both ends of the glass are pressed can the air be blown; otherwise, the glass will break. This is especially true for SM 2-25 type equipment.

   6. Upper Roller Engagement Time

Because the small bend section has a wider range of applications, reaching a radius of 450, to meet the shape requirements, a compression molding method is used. When the glass exits the furnace, it is pressed into shape by the upper roller in the wind baffle. Generally, for a radius above 1000, pressure is unnecessary; the roller's own weight is sufficient. For a radius below 1000, pressure can be used, requiring a pressurization time, which is the upper roller engagement time. Generally, it can be set to be approximately the same as the quenching time.

   7. Locator Engagement Time

Because the glass is relatively narrow and long, as the glass travels from the upper sheet table to the heating furnace, it is heated for a period of time. When it exits the furnace, it moves rapidly to the wind baffle and may deviate, often causing the glass to warp. To solve this problem, a positioning device is installed in the wind baffle to adjust the glass and eliminate warping. The setting principle is that when the glass reaches its position after exiting the furnace, it can descend as it swings backward.

   8. Dominant Baffle Pre-elevation Time

In the small bend section, the dominant baffle changes its arc along with the recessive baffle. After the arc change, its chain is loose. When the blowing is finished and the recessive baffle is flattened, it will also flatten and damage the glass. This requires a pre-tensioning action, which is the dominant baffle pre-elevation. The setting principle is that the time is longer for smaller radii and shorter for larger radii. However, be careful not to tighten the chain too much, especially for small radii; excessive tightening can damage the wind baffle.

   9. Glass Length

This is a parameter that must be set for multi-station equipment in small bend sections. The glass's position in the furnace depends entirely on its length. If the glass length is set too long, it will shorten the reciprocating interval within the furnace and the effective wind baffle interval after exiting. It should be set according to the actual length of the glass.

   10. Common defects in small curved tempered glass include:

Straight edges, unstable curvature, and excessively deep indentations. To help users quickly understand the application of each parameter, we have specifically listed how to produce high-quality small curved glass for user reference.

The above is a summary of the process flow and precautions for tempering furnace operation. We hope it is helpful. For more information, please continue to follow us.

Features of tempering furnaces, explained by a convection tempering furnace manufacturer

Manufacturers of convection tempering furnaces believe that with the development of various industries, the uses of tempered glass are becoming increasingly widespread, making it an indispensable material in life. Tempering furnaces are important equipment in glass processing. A glass tempering furnace is a device that heats and then rapidly cools glass, causing compressive stress to form on the surface of the cooled glass and tensile stress inside, thereby increasing the strength of the glass and transforming ordinary annealed glass into tempered glass.
